"The truest love you'll ever experience is the love you give yourself, It took me a long time to realize i'll never be good to anyone if I am not good to myself first."
Guyleigh Johnson is an African Nova Scotian woman from North-End Dartmouth. She is a published Author, Artist and Community Advocate that focuses on youth, race and mental health. In 2016 she published her first book titled "Expect The Unexpected" which is a collection of poetry that follows inner-city youth and the challenges they face and overcome. Johnson tries her best to break the negative stigmas surrounding her community, the place she calls home and believes has helped shape her into the woman she is today. In December 2018 she released her second collection titled "Afraid Of The Dark" which is poetry and prose and follows the story of a young Black woman struggling with identity issues, absent parents, a rough neighbourhood and a society she feels she doesn't belong in. Guyleigh spends her time today actively working in her community hosting writing workshops on grief, healing and mental health. Whether you're following her social media, personal blog or see her on a panel Johnson is always trying to start a conversation about change. She is passionate about helping youth see their true potential, find their purpose and help others.
